Unlike earlier work which draws heavily on hard edges and the geometries of architectural space, I derived “226 Miles Deep in The Canyon” exclusively from environmental imagery and photographs that I recorded while guiding a whitewater raft down the entire length of the Grand Canyon of the Colorado River. There are no straight lines. The work is a composite space; looking out through the canyon, down at the water, over at the high walls, backwards into my memory, and up overhead through the lens of slot canyons and caves, it simultaneously conveys the multiple viewpoints of a single experience.
