This piece began by drawing selectively into several layers of images that I took on a recent visit to the outstanding Seattle Public Library (designed by OMA, Rem Koolhaas). In many ways departing from the obvious perspective lines of Koolhaas' visceral abstract space, the marks pause to take in the structured rhythms of soffits, steel grids, insulation, and beams while also bearing the unpredictable nature of intervening shadows, people, age and patina.
